Composting Initiative
What the group did:
During their time in Aegina, the composting initiative group took part in soil quality testing. The testing evaluated the overall health of the soil including pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash levels. The soil testing helped determine the need for composting. The knowledge of the soil conditions will allow the group to better assess and implement a composting initiative geared towards enhancing the overall soil quality.
Further, the group encourages the establishment of the Aegina Compositing Association. This group will work in coordination with Aegina farmers, composting advocates, and local educators in order to promote long-term sustainability. The goal of the program is to reduce waste hauling cost through local composting and recycling. These programs will establish a foundation of knowledge that will allow Aegina to prosper for years to come.
