What the group plans to do:
In their time in Aegina, the group plans to test a multitude of water around the island including pH, phosphate levels, and temperature for several different area beaches. Water testing will allow them to determine the cleanliness of the surrounding waters and help in determining what contaminants, if any, inhabit the sea. This knowledge will allow the group to better understand the major contributors of pollutants and allow the group to assess the multitude of risks to the marine ecosystem.
Alongside the water testing, the group plans to attempt to implement an Aegina Clean Beaches program in the area. The goal of the program is to recruit schools and organizations on the island to take on the role of cleaning these waters in order to allow a more sustainable and diverse aquatic environment. The group has taken on several beach clean ups in the local area to improve the life of organisms both on and off the shore.
